For stags partying in Madrid, there are few more spectacular
ways to get out, see a bit of Madrid, and have a few, than by taking
the funny funicular. Madrid’s famous teleférico
will take you for a memorable carry on up the cable. A tried and trusted
urban myth has it that many a Madrileño was conceived in these cable
cars that have run the 3km out to Madrid’s biggest park since
the 70's. But if that puts more than a glint in your bloodshot eye, rest
assured, they’ll have cleaned the seats ! |
 |
Your guide will take you to the west of Madrid city centre
and jump in the cable cars. You’ll wobble out
over the Casa de Campo park, and begin to appreciate the amazing views
of the old capital and Arab settlement. You’ll
also get a feel for the Spanish Civil War battles – this is where
Franco’s troops entered beleaguered Republican Madrid, aided by a “Fifth
column” lying low under your seat ! |
 |
From those giddy heights of history, you may well be feeling
a bit…giddy.. so observe the golden rule on these occasions - stop
looking down ! Instead check out the amazing view of the old town with
the setting sun casting a soft light on the white stone of the Royal Palace
and the vast Almudena Cathedral. You’ll glide over the mighty River
Manzanares and then over the equally mighty M30 ring road (yup that’s
the one that actually runs under the main stand at Atletico Madrid !). |
 |
In about 12 minutes you’ll be there. Where? A bar
on the crest of the hill of course, this is Madrid ! Our guide will get
you seated at the restaurant-bar and order up some local alcohol-based
specialities. Why not try a jug of fruity sangria, maybe some
crisp cava or just sink a beer or two.
We'll suggest some activities while out
in the Park (rowing, the fun fair, swimming pool , zoo) or just cable it
back while pondering the feasibility of that procreation story |
